The idea must have been appealing in Illinois. Let's bring doctors and greedy trial lawyers together in a classroom so they can learn to play nice. The classes are in the second year. My bet is that the following has occurred: 1) the doctors got lots of free legal advice and 1) the trial lawyers got some great expert witnesses for their cases.

From the news article:

Can doctors and lawyers improve relations in a time when medical malpractice cases abound?

A class at the University of Illinois College of Law says yes. The class, now in its second year, invites medical residents and physicians to participate as mock clients.

Both professions have plenty to learn about each other, said professor C.K. Gunsalus. When lawyers see the thick, complex medical records, they often panic, she said.

"The other thing is that doctors don't much like lawyers," she said.
