There may be some ravenous trial lawyers, but I am not one of them. Freedom Works caught my attention with the use of ravenous in its press release slamming trial lawyers for outrageous claims of obesity liability.

Standing Athwart History posts about the so-called Cheeseburger Bill::

Washington, D.C. - FreedomWorks applauds members of the U.S. House of Representatives who overwhelmingly supported tort reform and personal responsibility in a key vote yesterday. H.R. 554, The Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act, passed by a margin of 306 to 120. Increasingly, ravenous trial lawyers are targeting America’s fast food industry with outrageous claims of obesity liability.

I can accept the cutness of using ravenous in the context of a so-called Cheeseburger Bill or obesity liability. But, I am uncomfortable with the idea that there is a significant subgroup of trial lawyers who are ravenous.

Greedy seems to have these connotations:
Having a strong urge to obtain or possess something, especially material wealth, in quantity
Having an insatiable appetite for an activity or pursuit

Ravenous, on the other hand, goes in these directions:
Wanting to eat or drink more than one can reasonably consume
Desiring or craving food
Having an insatiable appetite for an activity or pursuit

I will admit there is some overlap in the the meanings of greedy and ravenous. The insatiable appetite for an activity or pursuit concept seems to be a common thread. But, ravenous is too focused on food or drink for my taste.

Therefore, I object.
